Hobo Tin Can Beer Holders

Hobo Tin Can Beer Holders

It’s officially summertime, which means lots of opportunities to drink outdoors. Keep your favorite libation nearby with these Hobo Tin Can Beer Holders ($30/2-pack). Basically tin cans on metal sticks, each measures 28-inches tall, features a crushed bottle cap on the bottom, and comes with a crudely hand-stamped name plaque for marking your territory beverage.

Beard Coozie

Beard Coozie

Give your favorite brew a manly mane of (facial?) hair with the Beard Coozie ($7). Made from crafting fur that’s mounted to a stretchy band for maximum beer container compatibility, they feature a “mouth” opening to let a portion of the label shine through, and will instantly make you the coolest drunk at the party.

Cube Tube

Chill without the Spill

Cube Tube is a vertical ice cube tray that prevents you from spilling water while transporting a full tray of water to your freezer. It also provides the user better control while dropping the ice into a drink. Just fill the tube, insert the divider, seal the tube and freeze. Once it’s frozen, hit the flexible bottom against a hard surface. This will loosen up the ice to be pulled out (and probably relieve some stress). The tube is designed with a slight draft to make pulling the ice out easier.

We didn’t think thermostats mattered either.

Until we learned they control about 50% of our energy bill.

complicated thermostat imageAs much as the refrigerator, lighting, TVs, computers, and stereos combined. In fact, 10% of all U.S. energy is controlled by thermostats. That’s the equivalent of 1.7 billion barrels of oil per year. But in most homes the thermostat is an unassuming beige box. It doesn’t matter if it’s a manual or complicated programmable thermostat,

we do with it what we’ve always done: get up, walk over to it, and change the temperature. Every few hours. Every day. 1,500 times a year.

We still try to save energy, of course. We turn down the thermostat when we can, we don’t set it too high or low. But we’re human. We forget. Until we see our energy bills.

Source: 2007 Buildings Energy Data Book, Table 4.2.1

Figures are from the ACEEE.

So how much energy are we wasting?

A lot, it turns out. The EPA says a properly programmed thermostat can cut 20% off your heating and cooling bill. But to program it right, we have to give the thermostat an exact schedule: lower the temperature at 8 AM, turn it up when we get home, lower it again when everyone’s in bed. The problem is, our lives don’t go according to schedule: we leave for the weekend, go out to dinner, stay up till 1 AM. Programming a

thermostat right is almost impossible.

According to one study, 90% of programmable thermostats are rarely or never programmed. The EPA even took away their Energy Star rating. So we started looking for an alternative.

Your thermostat should program itself around your life – not the other way around.

What if your thermostat could learn from you?

What if it could build a schedule around what you like? Or figure out when you’re gone? Or show you how long it’ll take to warm up the house? What if your thermostat told you how much energy it used? And helped you to save even more? What if you could control it from your laptop and phone?

That would change everything.

Biofreeze Singles on the go

The power of Biofreeze while on the go

Performance Health has expanded its Biofreeze® product line with the introduction of Biofreeze Pain Relieving Singles, the perfect complement to at-home and in-clinic Biofreeze applications. This innovative packaging provides the power of Biofreeze in an ultra portable, no mess application providing pain relief—anytime, anywhere. Simply snap open the small pouch, apply Biofreeze to the painful area and continue with daily activities. The new Biofreeze Pain Relieving Singles will be available July 1, 2011.

Three top benefits including:

  • Nothing on the hands.
  • Easy to dispose.
  • Fits anywhere.

“We are very excited to launch this truly innovative addition to our highly respected and effective Biofreeze product family,” stated Jeff Mathers, product manager for Performance Health. “Pain can strike at inconvenient times and inconvenient places, and it’s not always feasible for patients to carry our larger patient-sized Biofreeze products. We encourage hands-on health care practitioners to recommend Biofreeze Singles as a complement the patient-sized products so that patients are protected no matter where they go. This stamp-sized packet fits in a wallet or purse and provides immediate access to Biofreeze pain relief. Even when patients are on-the-go, they don’t have to wait to treat pain.”

Biofreeze Pain Reliever is the number one clinically-used and recommended topical analgesic. It delivers targeted pain relief with the benefits of cryotherapy (cold therapy). Doctors, therapists and patients are shifting toward topical analgesics and away from systemic pain relievers, which can affect the gastrointestinal tract, heart, kidneys and other organs, as well as cognition. Conversely, topical analgesics deliver targeted pain relief with low levels of systemic absorption, which may result in less risk for systemic toxicity and/or drug interaction.

What Is the Difference Between the Bosu Basic & Bosu Pro?

BOSU, which is an acronym for “both sides utilized,” is part balance board, part stability ball and part plyo box. It looks like a stability ball cut in half. The BOSU is unique because you can use it on either side. Place the flat side down to train on the soft balance disc or flip it over and train on the flat surface, which is unstable because of the air disc that supports it.

Identification

The BOSU basic and Pro look exactly alike and have the same specifications. The inflatable air disc, or bubble, is blue with a black base. The base has curved protrusions that you can grip as handles. The BOSU basic and Pro models support users up to 350 lbs. The device itself weighs less than 14 lbs., which makes it relatively portable. The base measures 25 inches in diameter and the disc is 12 inches tall when fully inflated.

Exercises

You can do the same exercises on either the BOSU basic or BOSU Pro. Set the device on the floor with the bubble side up. Stand on it to do basic strength exercises, such as squats, overhead presses or biceps curls. This forces your core muscles to work harder to stabilize your body on the unstable surface. You can also jump and hop on or across the BOSU ball. Flip it over to do pushups with your hands on the base. Stand on the base for a challenging balance exercise.

Features

The BOSU Pro is a newer version of the BOSU device. Although it looks the same as the basic model, the Pro version does have some extra features that make it more durable for commercial environments. It has a larger bladder that weighs 8 lbs and a dually over-molded platform to provide extra strength. The base is covered with a non-marking, non-skid material. The BOSU Pro includes a pump, a guidebook and a DVD. The BOSU basic includes a guidebook and pump.

Considerations

The BOSU basic includes a 90-day warranty, while the BOSU Pro comes with a one-year warranty. BOSU designed the Pro model to be more durable so it can withstand the increased demands of a commercial fitness setting. The BOSU Pro is more expensive than the basic model.

BOSU Pro Balance Trainer

Use either the curved or flat side of this multifunctional core training device to integrate balance into every aspect of fitness, sports performance, or rehabilitation. The BOSU Balance Trainer adds versatility and challenge to an incredible range of activities: cardio, strength training, athletic and sport conditioning, core training, and mind/body workouts. Combine it with other equipment to add new, exciting elements to existing training regimens.
Made of commercial grade materials, designed for durability. The platform is molded for extra strength. This model has the PRO logo detail for easy identification and a smooth but non-marking, non-skid base.

The kit that includes BOSU Integrated Balance Training Programming Guide, DVD and foot pump. Free DVD selection is not available with this item.
